We are planning already for the 15th edition of the Ozone Chabre Open which will take place from 25th June to 1st July, 2022. Physical registration will start Friday evening 24th June, with a practice task on Saturday 25th June. As pioneers of the friendly, stress-free paragliding cross country competition, our emphasis is on safe, achievable tasks. The event is aimed primarily at competent and experienced pilots not yet established on the competition circuit. Above all, it will be fun! Sponsored by Ozone, the event includes daily briefings and de-briefings, as well as social events and lots of prizes. And we will have great flying in a fantastic area.
Task setting, briefings and de-briefings will be led by the inimitable Jocky Sanderson, who has once again agreed to be Meet Director. Jocky’s skill and experience in cross country flying, SIV, safety and training, his enthusiasm to help pilots improve and his animated briefings and de-briefings truly make the competition the best learning environment for any budding competition pilot and even for experienced XC pilots. Plus, he provides great entertainment for us all.
The Ozone Chabre Open has always been a Serial Class event. This year we are once again, going one stage further and restricting it to Sport Class and below. No EN-D or CCC class gliders allowed! Pilots will still be scored by class. There will be prizes for winners in each glider category: Fun, Recreation, and Sport, determined by aspect ratio and certification, plus prizes for the women and rookies classes.
For further details, see the Competition Info page.
This year we also aim to increase the emphasis on teams (4 pilots per team), we will look particularly for teams with mixed abilities and glider ratings, and those from clubs and schools. We especially welcome those where the team leaders are willing to help less competition-savvy members, with advice and guidance.
The Ozone Chabre Open will feature a full programme of activities including talks and lectures from paragliding skygods, debriefs of each day’s task by our resident sky god Jocky, and of course the legendary Ribiers Paella/Pizza evening and the final night party and prizegiving.
The entry fee for pre-registered competing pilots in 2022 will be 290 euros. Ozone has agreed, once again, to further sponsor pilots flying Ozone wings, with a discount of 20 euros on the entry fee so 270 euros when flying an Ozone wing.
The fee includes: seven days potential flying, with transport and retrieves, Live Tracking, T-shirt, talks and de-briefs, a couple of meals and the famous Ozone party. For family and friends, there will be a special entry ticket to cover all the extra events around the competition, and a T-shirt. All registered pilots will be entered into a free draw for a selection of fabulous prizes including a brand new Ozone wing.
The Ozone Chabre Open is organised by the Laragne-based club, Chabre Vol Libre with support from Ozone, local and regional authorities, local businesses, and Cross Country Magazine.
